Medical disclaimer

Uroanswers provides general health information, not medical advice. Nothing on the site or forum creates a doctor-patient relationship.

Updated: 2 October 2026

Uroanswers provides general health information. It is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for an assessment by a clinician who knows your history.

General information, not advice about you

Our answer pages and articles describe what published clinical guidelines say about a condition or treatment in general. They can't take account of your age, your other conditions, your medications, your test results or what you want from treatment, and those are the things that decide what is right for you.

Use what you read here to understand your situation and prepare questions. Don't use it to diagnose yourself, or to start, stop or change a treatment or dose without talking to your clinician.

In an emergency

Don't use this site or the forum to get help in an emergency. The forum is not monitored in real time.

  • If you think you are having a medical emergency, call 911 in the US or your local emergency number.
  • Seek urgent care for problems such as:
    • an erection lasting more than four hours
    • being unable to pass urine
    • a fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, spreading redness, or discharge from a wound after surgery
    • part of an implant pushing through the skin
    • a popping sound during sex followed by rapid swelling and bruising of the penis
    • sudden severe pain in a testicle
    • sudden loss of vision or hearing after taking an erectile dysfunction medicine
  • If you have chest pain during or after sex, call 911. Tell the crew if you have taken an erectile dysfunction medicine, because it affects which heart medicines are safe to give you.
  • If you are thinking about suicide, call or text 988 in the US. Other countries' crisis lines are listed in our safeguarding policy.

No doctor-patient relationship

Reading this site, posting on the forum or emailing us does not create a doctor-patient relationship with anyone.

This includes clinicians on the forum who carry a verified badge. The badge confirms that their credentials have been checked against a public register. It does not make them your doctor. What they post is general information, not a diagnosis or a treatment recommendation for you.

Forum posts are personal experiences

Members write about their own experiences. Their posts are not checked against clinical guidelines the way our pages are, and they may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. One person's result, good or bad, doesn't predict yours.

Products, clinics and surgeons

Members may name products, clinics and surgeons when describing their own care. A mention on the forum is not an endorsement by Uroanswers. Our own pages don't compare or rank commercial products.

Guidelines change, and differ between countries

Pages are written from the guideline editions named on each page, and each page shows when it was last reviewed. Guidelines are updated over time, and recommendations, approved treatments and availability can differ between countries. If something you read here differs from what your clinician tells you, follow your clinician and ask them about the difference.

Reporting a problem with a medicine or device

If you think you have had a side effect from a medicine, or a problem with a medical device, tell your clinician. In the US you can also report it to the FDA through MedWatch. Posting about it on the forum doesn't replace telling your clinician or reporting it to the FDA.

Links to other sites

Pages link to guideline publishers and other outside sources so you can check what we say. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content.

Responsibility for your decisions

Decisions about your health are yours to make with your clinician. To the extent the law allows, Uroanswers is not responsible for any decision made, or action taken, based only on information from this site. Our terms of use set this out in full.
